In early 2021, a devastating wave of the COVID-19 pandemic overwhelmed Nepal's public health system, particularly in rural areas with limited healthcare infrastructure. The government and local health agencies faced a critical shortage of trained healthcare professionals to manage the surge in cases and provide essential care.
The International Health Organization (IHO) partnered with Alliance Asia Nepal to address this pressing challenge by leveraging its consultant pool management services.
Objective
To rapidly mobilize a team of qualified healthcare professionals and support staff to deliver immediate medical assistance in underserved rural provinces while building local capacity for long-term public health resilience.
Approach
Identifying Needs:
- Conducted rapid assessments in collaboration with local health departments to identify critical staffing gaps.
Expert Selection and Deployment:
- Activated the consultant pool to recruit 200+ health professionals, including doctors, nurses, paramedics, and mental health counselors.
- Matched experts based on skillsets, location preferences, and project requirements.
Onboarding and Support:
- Provided comprehensive briefings, logistical support, and necessary equipment.
- Assigned internal advisors to ensure smooth integration and address challenges.
Capacity Building:
- Conducted training workshops for local health workers on emergency response, patient management, and disease prevention.
